I started by modeling ember from a front and side view orthographic. I draw lines across my orthographic work to keep the multiple takes of the character consistent with one another.

when I created spike I started with a sculpt from his front and side view then retopologized him. The process took less time and yielded a better result.

Ember was built from scratch in Maya. She never touched Zbrush or Mudbox, though I did retopologize her face a couple times to fine tune for the shape I was after. Edge loops are placed to make expressions optimal.

The Making of Ember and Spike

Created from a front and side view perspective, Ember and Spike include a full texture set and are a 3D interpretation of the 2D Flash characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. In the future I will rig and animate the two together. Ember and Spike are property of Hasbro. ALSO check out the Final Showcase of Ember and Spike: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/4b8NL8
